A month ago me, Polly and Emi went to bosco in città to take some pictures for Polly's new project *Betulaceae.
It was a nice place and a nice afternoon.

ilta puuro

I was at Polly's place an hour ago when my mum called me because she wanted to give her a little xmas present and I come back my place in order to pick it up.
By the way now I'm still at my place because this morning we found at esselunga the PORRIDGE!

Porridge is one of my favorite foods ever. So now I am eating porridge, or "puuro" in finnish, and later me, Polly and our friends will be together for a dinner <3

It will snow more!

here it is my lovely dish (:

summer hits!

when we were in finland me and polly used to do funny things.
in the morning we also used to watch some tv. the voice was the main music channel there and it was broadcasting always quite funny music as power metal and so on. this band was one of our "favorites".

Unklubi.

haha.

maybe depressing actually, but we were always laughing a lot :P

Chi l'ha vista morire 1972

Aldo Lado is the director of this early 70's masterpiece I have seen yesterday evening with Polly.
It is a thriller.
And it is exciting.

A strip of mysterious murders, the last one in Venice. The victims are little girls with red hair. Franco Serpieri's daughter is the last one murdered. The Police is not able to dicover the criminal behind these crimes so he tries to find the killer himself. Opening the Pandora's Box.

The film is populated with many characters so he has to cope with many suspects and the director uses a familiar formula: the likely suspects are killed off one by one, and the last man (or woman) standing is revealed as the murderer. But the process feels clumsier than it ought to here, and you are not able till the end to predict who is behind the murders.

Painterly cinematography and an intriguing score by the brilliant Ennio Morricone do their job to increase the suspance.

Recommended.

aNobii

yesterday I was looking for some random quotes about two books I was thinking to read and I discovered this website: aNobii.
it's some sort of last.fm of the books.
it's quite cool and you can easily track all your readings, review and also rate them. after a while the website also suggests you some readings you may like upon the basis of the books and the ratings on your virtual bookshelf. I find it very useful, also you don't have to worry to fill titles and authors of the books, if your book has it, you just have to tap the ISBN code written on the back, above the bar code, and the book will be added with correct datas. even if it's form england, italy or somewhere else.
very nice, if you are a hardcore reader or just want to keep track of your readings, join!

Väinämöinen ja Aino

As I told you some posts ago, Joukahainen, an evil youth, challenges Vainamoinen to a singing contest.

His sister Aino, who is offered in marriage to Vainamoinen, drowns herself rather than wed the aged hero.

Kalevala is an amazing poem and all the characters are oustanding heroes of the finnish and scandinavian mythology.

More to come (:

Joukahainen lännittää tulisen nuolen

Joukahainen is another character in the Kalevala.

He is the rival of the main character, Väinämöinen.

After losing a singing contest, he pledges his sister Aino to Väinämöinen, but she drowns herself rather than marry him, this is the main reason Joukahainen became angry and envious of Väinämöinen.

He shoots the rival and plunge him into the waters of Pohjola.

Kullervon sotaan lähtö

This is the story of Kullervo. From the poem Kalevala.

He is the Son of Untamo and Untamala. Untamo is jealous of his brother Kalervo, and the strife between brothers is fed by numerous petty disputes. Eventually Untamo's resentment boils into open warfare, and he kills all of Kalervo's tribe save for Kalervo's daughter Untamala, who submits to Untamo. Shortly afterwards, Untamala gives birth to a baby boy she names Kullervo.

When Kullervo is three months old, he is heard uttering vows of revenge and destruction on Untamo's tribe. Untamo tries three times kill Kullervo by drowning, fire and crucifixion, but each time, the infant Kullervo is saved by his latent magical powers.

Untamo then allows the child to grow up, then tries three times to find employment for him as a servant in his household, but all three attempts fail as Kullervo's wanton and wild nature makes him unfit for any domestic task. In the end, Untamo decides to rid himself of the problem by selling Kullervo into slavery to Ilmarinen.

And the story continues tomorrow...

Leaving Milan. Part 1

this post is intended to recollect many feelings I have about this summer trip. I am leaving milan for a while and it is so long since I left for such a long time from here. I am happy. I don't belong to here and this place where I am now doesn't belong to me at all. I am sitting on my vespa in a car park near milan watching the sky. a cloudy sky full of thunders. it will rain sometimes this night maybe. I'm not escaping from there, I am just going where my senses my expectations and myself are leading me. and this place is finland. suomi. this is not only my birth country.or some idealistic "wonderland" or something like that, this is a place which I feel belonging to me and where I belong to. this is a special trip. polly. polly is a girl. we are walking together for quite a while now, and we are special. it will be a meravellous immersion in a place full of sounds smells things colours. and us. I am in love. yes I am in love.
and I, we, are leaving.

Blogging Stuff Again

concerning these days of silence I have to say something. first of all I had to do a plenty of things and I my time kept running out, and it is still. so my blogging and my diary writing and all the other stuff like the moomin project froze.

but now I am on the run again.

a couple of days ago polly graduated!

and it was meravellous. her installation art was so powerful and I am proud helping her with it a bit. here is a link to her flickr stream concerning the project presented to the commission and a link to a video of the installation art. you may want to see it!

we finally bought our plane tickets to helsinki!

I really love to go there, specially with you polly, I'm sure you will love suomi.

more beautiful things inside!

my collection of old finnish postcards is growing.

I will post some of my new treasures soon. I need only an album to keep them in safe.

probably I'll use the MUJI one which polly gave to me. it has big brown pages, A3 format. and it is good looking.

plus.

I really need to buy a leather bag. probably a messenger. or something like that. because I only have an old black cotton bag which I always use. need something prettier.

by the way we found many beautiful things today. polly got some old photos. me got a rare polaroid 1000s black with original and working falshcubes. and it looks gorgeous. I mean. it's great. it is in mint condition. as just out of box!
just perfect.

will we bring it to finland this summer polly? (:

it looks like this one in the picture but it is a true 1000s with fixed focus and red shutter button. the one in this picture is a 2000s with range focus lens, the same of the Colorpack II.

I'll post tomorrow a picture of the actual camera. the flashcubes are almost the same, mine actualy are a bit more blueish than those ones (:

beautiful weekend.

with you.

full time friends

vainajan muotokuva

eleanoora rosenholm.
a finnish band. another discovery. another band produced by fonal records.

their first LP "vainajan muotokuva" brings you into a forest, old pictures, dead people's stories, stars and deep thoughts. some sort of metaphysical places.

musically they differ from the other fonal bands, but still emobodies perfectly the spirit of exploration shared by these young artists. moody. and fascinating atmospheres.

and I like how they sound.

just give them a listen, you can find a couple of tracks on their myspace here.

A farewell.

Before my justified demise, brought about my own hand, I would like to write down a few words for future generations and the victims’ families in order to shed light on the reasons I had for doing what I’ve done. I don’t expect or want forgiveness, nor do I ask for it. We shall never understand why events in life turn out as they do, for they develop and deepen independently of us. We are small and fragile, alone and forgotten. How could we ever alter the will and direction of the avalanche? I believe that our fate is written in the stars, in their movements and will. The stars are great, and we are their forsaken children, deprived of warmth and understanding. The loves offered us are lust and power games, machinations of desire and reflections of our own selfishness. Life is a cold punishment for our other lives; we are the serpents of literature, forever eating our own tails. We deserve the loneliness and misery that is ours. Do not attempt to fathom why and what I’ve done, for much like a leaf that falls from a tree and a river that overflows its banks, a human life is the life of a butterfly flying against the storm. I am not proud of what I’ve done, but I loved so much that it pained my chest and broke my heart time and time again. And there is not one amongst the tiny and small who can bear this endlessly without losing her heart and love in the cold, dark eye of the mire.

May the cursing of my name offer consolation to those whom my deeds have left with none, only hatred and bitterness. I have my cross to bear, and I sincerely wish the mourners a ray of light into their sorrow.

discoveries and lite rain

~discoverying lau nau

looking through the various panorama of finnish music, we can't find much interesting stuff. most of the bands are too mainstream to be considered interesting, and the rest of it plays metal. a couple of days ago, I remembered some really interesting artists: they're all part of a small indipendent record label, called 'fonal records'. they're experimental musicians. artists.
among them, there is Lau Nau. her last LP, "Nukkuu" (it means 'sleeps').

~these are the best months of my entire life.

discovering the world with you

we keep running from a place to another in our never ending journey to discover things of the world and complete ourself by getting ourselves experienced.

and enjoy it.

we went last sunday to this maravellous place in between of the alps near switzerland. an abandoned place. what means abandoned? I think that place was not abandoned for me. it was ready to be discovered by us. but otherwise I admit. ok it is abandoned for the others. I am attracted by the story of places like this. this collegium had a peculiar atmosphere. many people used once to live here and we felt these people around us. in these empty classrooms. around the corridors. in the air.

enjoy our journey.
watch these pictures.
